Breaki, He Had Issues with His Fellow Lawmakers and They Replaced Him with Meranda – GAC Chairman Olusi
The Chairman of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State, Tajudeen Olusi, has clarified that the council had no role in the removal of Mr. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly. He stated that Obasa’s impeachment was solely the decision of the lawmakers, who opted to replace him with Deputy Speaker Mrs. Mojisola Meranda.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen at his residence in Lagos on Friday, Olusi revealed that the lawmakers neither consulted the All Progressives Congress (APC) nor the GAC before executing Obasa’s removal.
“Members of the GAC are not part of the Lagos State House of Assembly to allegedly be behind the removal of Obasa. It can’t be true,” Olusi stated. “We read it also that morning. The lawmakers carried it out without consulting the party and those of us in the GAC. That is our position.”
He further disclosed that the GAC had invited all involved lawmakers to listen to their complaints but criticized them for failing to bring the issue to the party’s attention earlier.
“It is for the party to decide. The lawmakers have no absolute power to remove and install their leaders,” Olusi emphasized. “Nobody can become a member of the House of Assembly unless sponsored by a political party, and the sponsors are the inspectors.”
The APC apex leader described the crisis as an internal matter between Obasa and his colleagues in the House and reassured that steps were being taken to resolve the situation.
He revealed that a high-powered APC committee led by Chief Bisi Akande, with members including Aremo Olusegun Osoba, former APC National Vice Chairman (South-West) Chief Pius Akinyelure, and others, was actively working on resolving the matter through consultations with all stakeholders, including Obasa and Meranda.
“Those of us in the GAC, along with the Chairman of the Party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, are doing all within our power to assist the committee,” he added.
On dissenting opinions expressed by some GAC members, Olusi clarified that such remarks were personal views and not the official position of the council.
“One day, and very soon, the matter will be settled. Disputes and differences are facts of life, and dispute resolution and party mechanisms are also in place,” he stated.
He assured that the party remained committed to addressing the crisis within its ranks, urging all parties to allow the internal resolution process to take its course.
