A Solemn Gathering of Faith, Legacy and Royal Devotion
It was a deeply ceremonial and spiritually uplifting occasion on Monday, 2nd of February, as His Royal Highness, Oba Adio Maroof Alagbe, the revered Elegushi of Egushi Ota Awori Kingdom, once again demonstrated his devotion to faith and family by hosting a profoundly enriching Ramadan Lecture and the solemn 10th year remembrance of his beloved mother, Late Alhaja Simiat Durotolu Alagbe (Nee Ajibose).
Significantly, the sacred event was hosted in the residence of the late matriarch herself — a place filled with memories, legacy, and deep emotional connection. Holding the remembrance in her own home added a powerful and symbolic touch to the gathering, making it even more personal, reflective, and spiritually meaningful.
Coming just five days after Kabiyesi hosted the Egushi Ota League of Imams and Alfas for their Annual Ramadan Lecture, the event further reflected his unwavering devotion to Almighty Allah, reverence for maternal legacy, and commitment to community unity.
The atmosphere was solemn yet uplifting as verses from the Holy Qur’an were beautifully cited, reminding all present of the divine words: “Indeed, to Allah we belong and indeed, to Him we shall return.” The Qur’anic recitations and exhortations encouraged reflection on life, accountability, righteousness, and the eternal reward that follows good deeds.
The gathering drew an impressive crowd from across the town, neighbouring local government areas, and the state at large. The venue was filled to the brim, accommodating government officials, religious leaders, royal fathers, baales, chiefs, members of the traditional council, market women, youth groups, men groups, women groups, and people from different walks of life. It was truly a remarkable and inspiring experience — a powerful testament to the respect and honour accorded to the late Alhaja and to the royal household.
Distinguished Islamic clerics rendered heartfelt prayers and supplications for the repose of the soul of Late Alhaja Simiat Durotolu Alagbe (Nee Ajibose) and for the continued peace and prosperity of the Egushi Ota Awori Kingdom. Among the revered Imams who offered prayers were:
Imam Muh. Saheed Asalu
Imam Abd Azeez Olasunkanmi Oladipupo
Imam Lukman Ola Akinwunmi
Al-Imam Ibrahim Muh. Sanni Alfagah
Their prayers, Qur’anic recitations, and admonitions emphasized piety, humility, charity, and the enduring reward of a righteous legacy — virtues that defined the life of the late matriarch and continue to guide the reign of her son.
More than a remembrance, it was a sacred and impressive spiritual experience — one that reinforced the bond between faith, family, and leadership. Through this solemn occasion, Oba Adio Maroof Alagbe reaffirmed that true royalty is anchored in gratitude, devotion to God, and unwavering service to humanity.
May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings, widen and illuminate her grave, grant her Aljanah Firdaus, and continue to strengthen Kabiyesi with wisdom and divine guidance.
Ameen.
