Kasali Oladepo Lawal, a determined Nigerian scholar, has graduated from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) with an impressive 4.84 out of 5.00 CGPA in Mineral Science. His outstanding performance earned him the Best Graduating Student award from the School of Earth and Mineral Sciences.
Kasali’s journey began with modest academic results — one B and six Cs in his WAEC exams. After being denied admission to FUTA in the 2016/2017 cycle, he enrolled in the university’s Pre-Degree Program. This experience helped build his academic confidence and laid the foundation for his later achievements.
Once admitted, Kasali set a bold goal: not just to get good grades, but to graduate with First-Class honours. He focused on deeply understanding his courses, not just passing them. His CGPA progression over five years shows remarkable consistency and growth:
Year 1: 4.73
Year 2: 4.79
Year 3: 4.78
Year 4: 4.81
Year 5: 4.84
He also earned a perfect 5.00 GPA in his final three semesters and appeared on the Dean’s List every year.
Beyond academics, Kasali was actively involved in student life. He represented FUTA in the 2022 Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS) Quiz, finishing as 2nd Runner-Up.
He also held leadership roles, serving as President of NAMGS FUTA in 2022 and Public Relations Officer in 2020. Balancing leadership, competitions, and academic excellence was demanding, but Kasali credits FUTA’s motto —
“Technology for Self-Reliance” — for keeping him grounded.
Kasali expressed deep gratitude to God, his family, mentors, and friends for their unwavering support.
