…Pledges Enhanced Trade Facilitation, Community Engagement
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Eastern Marine Command has witnessed a smooth transition of leadership, as Comptroller Anderson Jaja officially assumed duty as Area Controller on Friday, 12 September 2025.
In his inaugural address, Comptroller Jaja expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for entrusting him with the strategic role.
He also commended his predecessor, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Chika Dim, for his notable achievements during his tenure.
“I wish to commend the outgoing ACG Chika Dim for the massive work done in the Eastern Marine Command. I pledge to build on the foundations laid and drive the Command to greater heights,” he said.
Outlining his vision, Jaja stressed alignment with the CGC’s priorities of enhanced trade facilitation, stakeholder collaboration, synergy with sister security agencies, and engagement with riverine communities, particularly youth groups.
“To achieve our objectives, we must work hand in hand with partners, security agencies and host communities. This will foster more efficient and effective service delivery,” he noted.
The new helmsman also pledged to effectively man the Command’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) while sustaining the monthly work–life balance initiative with heads of federal establishments in Port Harcourt, introduced by his predecessor.
“Health is wealth, and a healthy man is a happy man, full of vibrancy. I intend to continue the work–life balance programme because a healthy officer is a productive officer,” he stated.
Jaja further charged officers to uphold punctuality, discipline and accountability, emphasising their importance to the Service’s image and performance.
He assured that his tenure would be defined by innovation, collaboration and a relentless pursuit of excellence, urging officers to join hands with him to suppress smuggling across creeks and waterways and to secure a brighter future for the Eastern Marine Command and the NCS at large.
In his valedictory remarks, ACG Dim described his time at the Eastern Marine Command as fulfilling, thanking the CGC and management team for the rare opportunity to serve in one of the Service’s amphibious arms. He urged officers and men to extend to Comptroller Jaja the same cooperation he enjoyed, and even more.
