Diddy Denied Bail Again After $50 Million Request

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail for the second time, with a federal judge ruling that the music mogul must remain in custody until his sentencing in October — despite a $50 million bond offer from his legal team.

Combs has been behind bars since his arrest in September on federal charges alleging he coerced former girlfriends into participating in drug-fueled sex acts involving male sex workers while he watched and recorded the encounters.

Last month, he was acquitted of the most serious charges — racketeering and sex trafficking — but was convicted on two counts related to prostitution. The charges carry a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison, meaning the 55-year-old could remain incarcerated into his 70s.

Sentencing in federal cases is governed by complex guidelines, and there is significant disagreement between prosecutors and the defense over how those guidelines should apply in Combs’ case. However, they are not binding, giving Judge Arun Subramanian broad discretion in determining Combs’ final sentence.

During the high-profile trial, prosecutors accused Combs of leveraging his celebrity status, wealth, and physical intimidation to manipulate two ex-partners into participating in what he allegedly called “freak-offs” — prolonged, drug-induced sexual performances.

His defense team countered that the government was attempting to criminalize what were, in their view, consensual but unconventional relationships. They acknowledged Combs had exhibited volatile behavior but argued it fell short of criminal conduct.

Combs’ lawyers have repeatedly sought his release on bail, most recently offering a $50 million bond. But Judge Subramanian rejected the proposal, stating in court documents that Combs failed to demonstrate he is not a flight risk or a danger to the community.

“Increasing the amount of the bond or devising additional conditions doesn’t change the calculus given the circumstances and the heavy burden of proof that Combs bears,” the judge wrote, referencing the July 2 hearing.

He added that even if Combs had met the standard regarding flight risk and danger, there were still no “exceptional reasons” — defined as extraordinary or unique circumstances — to justify deviating from standard pre-sentencing detention rules.

Prosecutors have consistently opposed any attempt to release Combs, citing what they describe as his “extensive history of violence” and his ongoing efforts to downplay his conduct.

“His continued attempt to minimize his recent violent behavior demonstrates his dangerousness and shows he is not amenable to supervision,” the prosecution noted in court filings.

As Combs awaits his sentencing, the case remains a highly scrutinized moment in the intersection of celebrity, power, and accountability.
