OLUWOLE KUKOYI clocks 70 today. Having overcome several challenges, it is worth celebrating his attainment of this rare age in this clime and time.
The name Dr Oluwole Kukoyi resonates with benevolence, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. He is a distinguished and successful Nigerian who, from a very humble background, rose to become a prominent figure in the health sector.
Oluwole Kukoyi was born in Ijebu-Igbo on 6th October 1955 to Pa Jonathan Kukoyi and Madam Emily Kukoyi, both of blessed memory.
He attended St. Mark’s Primary School, and later Molusi College both in Ijebu- Igbo, finishing in1973. He had his medical training at the University of Ibadan medical School from where he graduated in 1980, emerging as the best student in Psychiatry, and getting the Olatunde Odeku prize for the best student in neurosurgery. He had ultrasound training at Kings College Hospital, London, and Thomas Jefferson University Institute in Philadelphia USA.
He got MBA degree from the Business School Netherlands in 2009. He has a certificate of achievement from King’s College London on Internet of Things (IoT), and certificate of completion from Havard Business School Online on Sustainable Business Strategies.
He had his training as House Officer at State Hospital Ilaro and Ijebu-Ode after which he performed the mandatory one-year service at the Military cantonment Health Centre, Akure, Ondo State. He worked with the Ogun State Government from 1982 until 1988, when he left to establish Medicare Clinics, which became incorporated as Ace Medicare Clinics Limited in 2007. The hospital currently has over two hundred employees and offers preventive and curative healthcare as well as teaching and research services. The Rotary District 9110 Eye Hospital is located in the premises of the organisation.

He was Chairman of Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Ogun State branch in 2008-2010 and was once saddled with the responsibility of superintending the novel electronic election of the Association that recorded an unprecedented 84% voter participation. He is a member of the Board of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu as NMA representative.
He is a pioneer member of the Association of General and Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (AGPMPN) in Ogun State and was Chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the Association’s national AGM in 2007 which organized the most innovative Annual General and Scientific Conference so far. He is a member of the Healthcare Providers Association of Nigeria, HCPAN, and was honoured with Distinguished Healthcare Ambassador award.
He has been championing Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for doctors since 2009 through organisation of International Medical Conferences (up to 18 as at 2019). This was given a boost when Ace Medicare Clinics Limited was accredited by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria as a CPD provider.
The hospital is also accredited by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria to train Family physicians, with over eighty residents from tertiary institutions, Federal and State medical centres having passed through the organisation. He is an Anglican by faith; he was formerly Assistant Medical Adviser, Diocese of Lagos West and currently Medical Adviser, Diocese of Awori Anglican Communion.
He built and equipped a health centre for the Diocese. He was given a Special Recognition Award in 2012 by Covenant University, Ota for “promoting Human Capacity Development in Medicine and Community Relations and Services”. He is a member of the Nigerian American Chamber of Commerce and has featured as panelist on medical and IT matters.
He is also a member of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI
He is a member of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Development Endowment Foundation.
On Saturday July 6, 2024, Rotarian Dr Oluwole Kukoyi was installed as the pioneer District Governor of Rotary international District 9111.The atmosphere was electrifying. Dignitaries, Rotarians, and well-wishers gathered to witness a momentous occasion of the installation. This leadership was bestowed on him by Rotary Club which he joined about 40 years ago in a journey to increase leadership capacity.

Wole Kukoyi joined Rotary Club of Ota in 1984 to discover a new world or service. Rising rapidly through the ranks as two-term secretary and treasurer, he became president in1990-91 Rotary year. He received Best Rotarian-of-the-year award three consecutive times.
He served in various District Committees as Chairman and member, until 2005- 2006 when he was appointed Assistant Governor.
He was later appointed as Paul Harris Society Committee, Vice Coordinator and member of Rotary Foundation Dinner /Dance Committee in 2013-2014, Chairman, Gift of Life Committee 2014-2015, 2015-2016, Resource Person Gift of Life Committee 2016-2017, Chairman, Disease Prevention and Treatment Committee/Medical Cabin Project 2017-2018, 2018-2019, 2019-2020, and 2020-2021.
Starting from his first Rotary International convention in Portland in 1990, he has attended about twenty-five of such events across all the five continents. He also attended the virtual RI Conventions in Honolulu, USA and Taipei, Taiwan. He is a member of International Fellowship of Rotarian Doctors, International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians, International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians and Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group WASRAG and International Fellowship of Draught Playing Rotarians.
He attended the RI President’s Rotary Reunions in Cape Town, South Africa in February 2011. From 2012, he represented Rotary on the Board of Eye Bank for Restoring Sight, Nigeria up till 2016. He led a delegation of 8 Rotarians (from Ota and Badagry Clubs) and guests to Rotary Club of Taipei, Taiwan in 2013. He was a voting delegate at the Seoul 2016 RI convention. He was guest at the annual Fund-raising events of Rotary Club of Wallington UK in November 2016 and 2017.
He is a Level 2 Major Donor and a Benefactor to the Rotary Foundation. He is a member of the Paul Harris Society and also Polio plus Society.
He initiated and financed the Club contribution to the Rotary Foundation towards the first Global Grant project GG2099555 of the Club with Rotary Club of Brampton, Canada.
Along with his wife Sola, he attended the Rotary Institutes in Abidjan Cote D’Ivoire and Lusaka, Zambia and the International Assembly in Orlando, Florida. They both participated in the DGE Home Stay Program in Sarasota Florida.
He is currently the National Coordinator of Rotary International’s Inter Country Committee (ICC) which currently has relationships with Britain & Ireland and Turkey.
The installation ceremony was a celebration of these accomplishments and recognition of Dr. Kukoyi’s exceptional leadership qualities. In 2018, he was presented with the “Key to The City of Ota” by Kabiyesi the Olota of Ota, Prof. Adeyemi Obalanlege. On the invitation of the Covenant University, he has been visiting as a healthcare industry examiner for postgraduate students. He is a member of the Sectoral Advisory Board of Covenant Applied Informatics and Communication-African Centre of Excellence partnering with the organisation in a multi-million-dollar World Bank-funded project on developing diagnostic biomarkers for prostate and breast cancers and innovative drug candidates for malaria.
In this capacity, he has hosted delegations of World Bank, Association of Africa Universities and the National Universities Commission.
In June 2023, he received the Presidential Award of Excellence from the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas, an organisation that has a membership of over ten thousand physicians of Nigerian descent. In January 2024, he was elected a Honorary member of the same body.
He is an Ambassador of the Institute of Economics and Peace. He is the immediate past Global President of Molusi College Old Students Association (MOCOSA) with members in Nigeria, US, Canada and UK.

He has also been guest speaker at annual conferences of ANPA (Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas) held in Atlanta, Georgia, and Dallas Texas US in 2017 and 2018 respectively.
He is a member of Abeokuta Golf Club.
He is happily married to Rev. Mrs. Olusola Kukoyi, who is also a Level 2 Major Donor to the Rotary Foundation. They are blessed with four children. All the four children are Paul Harris Fellows.
