ALL THESE HABITS YOU MUST STOP, IF YOU WANT TO LIVE LONG

If you are going to understand the habits you need to stop to improve your health, you must first and foremost understand what health is.

“Doesn’t health just mean being physically fit?” you might say. Unfortunately, that perception of health cannot be any farther from the truth.

What then is health? Well, the World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

So, when we talk the habits you need to curb to improve your health, we are speaking about the things you need to stop to improve not only your physical well-being, but also your mental and social well-being as well.

Habits you need to stop to improve your physical health

  1. Skipping breakfast

Skipping your breakfast might seem pretty harmless, but is that really the case? Well, take a look at some statistics.

· Over 25% of people that skip breakfast have a greater chance of getting a heart disease than those that don’t.

· Stress hormones produced by the adrenal glands are higher in those who choose to skip their breakfast.

· The risk of obesity is higher in those that tend to skip breakfast too often.

Do you still think that skipping breakfast is harmless? Think again. Skipping breakfast is indeed a really bad habit that must be avoided if you crave good health and a long life.

So, no matter how busy you are, don’t skip your breakfast.

  1. Eating too much junks and fast food

Let’s put it as plainly as possible. Here are two things that can stem from eating too much junks and fast food:

· Heart diseases.

· Diabetes.

It is quite true and worthy of argument that the world is growing increasingly busier every day, and due to our busy schedules, there is little or no room for anything else. However, as convenient as fast foods might seem, they are not the answer.

The truth is, these fast foods contain too much fat that will clog your heart after a while or too much sugar that will greatly increase your odds of getting diabetes- both of which don’t sound like something you’d want to wake up with someday soon.

We therefore advise that you take some time to whip yourself a good meal yourself from time to time- a balanced diet to say the least, and by all means avoid eating junk foods as much as you possibly can.

  1. Smoking

As much as you might fail to recognize it, smoking is somewhat of a suicidal act. Did you know that of all the patients that die of heart diseases, about 30% are smokers? Also, about 30% of cancer casualties are smokers. Even more, about 85% of smokers end up wrestling with or dying of lung cancer. Isn’t that pathetic?

To crown it all is the fact that smoking makes you even more susceptible to high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, and asthma attacks.

Smokers are indeed liable to die young and you know it. Avoid smoking altogether. If you already do however, you can still get over it.

An instant resolve might not do you any good but you can wean yourself from it gradually. It might take over a month, maybe a year or two before you are able to stop it completely, but start today. If you feel yourself unable to, then consider visiting a rehab.

Habits you need to stop to improve your social and mental health

  1. Over thinking

Over thinking affects your mental health in more ways than you can imagine. Perhaps, the worst part is that it can affect your kids in years to come. Medical reports prove that over thinking is indeed a disease and it that can run through strings of generations.

As much as possible, try not to over think things. Fill your mind with positive thoughts, stay engaged, exercise, stay within a community of people that help bring out the best in you.

  1. Staying in a toxic relationship

A toxic relationship is one that rids you of your peace of mind. Relationships like that take a great toll on your health. They tend to affect not only your mental but also your social well-being.

Even though you might not want to leave such relationships, they are really bad for you. You might feel sound physically, but when emotionally, you are imbalanced, then in truth, you cannot be described as healthy. So seek out a counselor; take a break if you need to, but don’t make it a habit of staying in toxic relationships.

Know this

There is one good thing with habits, and it is that no matter how difficult it might seem, they can be broken when you put in the right amount of work.

Your health is a priority. Do not take it for granted. Put in the work for your own good. Stop the bad habits and guarantee yourself an improved health.
