TRIBUTES TO TWO PILLARS OF NIGERIA’S HERITAGE AND HISTORY.
With deep reverence and solemn reflection, we mourn the passing of two titans in the story of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu Buhari, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland.
Their transitions mark the close of two impactful chapters in Nigeria’s political and traditional leadership.
PRESIDENT MUHAMMED BUHARI, GCFR.
A soldier, statesman, and patriot whose life was defined by service, discipline, and a deep-rooted desire for national progress. From the battlefields as a military commander to the corridors of power as Head of State (1983–1985) and later a democratically elected President (2015–2023), Muhammadu Buhari stood as a symbol of integrity and austere leadership.
His legacy will endure in Nigeria’s fight against corruption, his commitment to national infrastructure renewal, and his persistent call for unity across regions, faiths, and tribes. While his policies stirred debates, none could question the strength of his convictions or the sincerity of his intentions to move Nigeria forward.
HRM OBA SIKIRU KAYODE ADETONA, GCON, AWUJALE OF IJEBULAND.
A royal father of rare wisdom and remarkable longevity, Oba Adetona reigned with vision and courage for over six decades. He was more than a traditional ruler, he was a reformer of the institution of monarchy, a bridge between tradition and modernity, and a champion of truth even in the face of political storms.
His voice echoed far beyond the palaces of Ijebu-Ode. With fearlessness and dignity, he spoke truth to power, advocated for justice, and embodied the nobility of Yoruba royalty. His devotion to education, development, and good governance earned him national admiration and respect.
In mourning these two icons, Nigeria pauses not only to weep but to remember, to learn and to honour. Their footprints are engraved in the nation’s soil, from the commanding heights of political authority to the sacred traditions of ancestral rulership.
May the souls of President Muhammadu Buhari and Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona rest in perfect peace. May their families, and the nation at large find comfort in their enduring legacies of leadership, service, and honour.
