The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) is moving forward with plans to meet stakeholders and prepare for the rescheduled council polls. However, the Rivers State House of Assembly has taken a firm stance:
- It has summoned the Chairman and Commissioners of RSIEC to appear before it.
-It has warned that failure to appear by March 7, 2025, could result in warrants of arrest being issued.
-The Assembly has emphasized that the rescheduled Local Government Elections cannot proceed until amendments are made to the Rivers State Local Government Amendment Law and the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law, ensuring they align with the Electoral Act.
-Additionally, the Assembly has accused RSIEC of disregarding its resolutions, which highlighted the necessity of delaying the elections until the legal framework is updated.
