The National Drvg Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has uncovered and d!smant|ed what it described as the biggest m£thamph£tamine production synd!cate ever discovered in Nigeria, following a major operation in Ogun and Lagos states.
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday, Mohamed Buba Marwa said the agency’s Special Operations Unit uncovered a massive hidden m£th laboratory inside Abidagba F0rest in Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to Marwa, the operation followed months of intell!gence gathering and coord!nated ra!ds carried out within 48 hours across Ogun and Lagos State.
NDLEA operatives reportedly st⁰rmed the forest laboratory on May 16, where suspects were allegedly cavght processing ill£gal sub$tances. Three Mexican nationals identified as Martinez Felix Nemecto, Jesus López Valles, and Torrero Juan Carlos were arr£sted alongside four Nigerian svspects.
The Nigerian svspects were named as Nwankwo Sunday Christian, Igwe Abuchi Remijus, Ifeanyichukwu Chibuike Joshua, and Egwuonwu Uchenna Victor.
In a separate operation, NDLEA officers arr£sted the alleged cart£l leader, Anochili Innocent, at his luxury residence in Lekki, Lagos. Invest!gators reportedly recovered the passports and mobile phones of the Mexican svspects from his home, which authorities said linked him directly to the drvg operation.
Further ra!ds later led to the arr£st of two more svspected members of the synd!cate, bringing the total number of arr£sts to 10.
NDLEA said operatives recovered more than 2,419 kil0grams of m£thamph£tam!ne and ch£mical sub$tances valued at approx!mately $362.9 mill!on, estimated to be worth over N480 bill!on on the international market.
Marwa described the discovery as a major br£akthr⁰ugh in the f!ght aga!nst transnational organised cr!me, ₩arning that the se!zed drvgs could have fl0⁰ded communities and cavsed widespread d£strvction if they had reached the streets.
