41 Councillors Endorse Senator Adeola For 2027 Ogun Governorship, Support Tinubu Campaign With N5m

No fewer than 41 Councillors drawn from five local government areas in Ogun West Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as their preferred candidate for the Ogun State governorship in the 2027 general elections.

Senator Adeola popularly known as Yayi endorsement was announced at a gathering of the Ogun West Councillors’ Forum, known as The Mandate Progressives, where they adopted him as their candidate for the state’s top political office.

At the meeting, they cited fairness, equity, and his performance in public office as their basis for the endorsement of senator Adeola representing Ogun West at the National Assembly in Abuja.

Chairman of the councillors forum, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, in his address at the event described the gathering as historic and reflective of the determination of Ogun West leaders at the grassroots to play a decisive role in shaping the political future of the state.

Hon. Akanji noted that councillors, as elected representatives closest to the people at the grassroots level, were well-positioned to understand the aspirations and expectations of the electorate.

He hinted that consultations across communities in Ogun West revealed growing support for senator Adeola as the preferred candidate for the governorship race in 2027.

However, as part of their commitment, the forum pledged a financial contribution of five million naira toward Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Campaign and two million five hundred thousand naira in support of Adeola’s governorship aspiration.

Furthermore, he recalled that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, the governorship position has been alternated between Ogun East and Ogun Central senatorial districts, leaving Ogun West without representation in the state’s highest political office.

Akanji said: “For decades since the creation of Ogun State, the governorship has rotated between Ogun East and Ogun Central. Ogun West, despite its contributions to the state’s political and economic development, has yet to produce a governor.”

He added that correcting a long-standing political imbalance had become imperative. “Ogun West remains the only senatorial district that has not occupied the highest office in the state. This is not merely a political issue; it is a matter of fairness, equity and justice.”

Moreover, during the meeting, the councillors moved and adopted a motion formally endorsing Adeola for the governorship, a decision that received overwhelming support from participants.

The forum said the endorsement reflected its collective confidence in the senator’s leadership capacity, political experience, and track record in public service.

Participants highlighted several achievements attributed to Adeola during his tenure as a federal lawmaker, including infrastructure development, empowerment programmes and social interventions across communities in Ogun West.

They noted that the senator had facilitated numerous development projects aimed at improving the living conditions of residents in the district.

These include vocational training initiatives for youths and women, financial assistance for small and medium-scale enterprises, and the distribution of working tools to beneficiaries to support livelihood development.

The forum also commended Adeola’s efforts in the health sector, particularly through medical outreach programmes, support for community health initiatives, and the provision of equipment to health facilities in rural communities.

Councillors further acknowledged his role in attracting federal government presence and development projects to the district. Among the projects cited was the conversion of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, into the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro.

According to the forum, Adeola’s legislative experience, background in financial management, and accessibility to constituents have enhanced his reputation as a grassroots-oriented leader capable of mobilising support and driving development.

The councillors, therefore, appealed to leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at both the state and national levels to consider the growing support for Adeola’s candidacy and allow Ogun West to produce the next governor of the state.

While acknowledging that other aspirants may express interest in the race, the forum urged party stakeholders and potential contenders to support Adeola’s emergence as the consensus candidate of the party in the interest of unity and electoral success.

In addition to the governorship endorsement, the councillors also declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The councillors also passed a vote of confidence in the administration of Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, commending his leadership and developmental initiatives across the state.

The meeting concluded with a call for unity among party members and supporters, as the councillors pledged to mobilise grassroots support throughout Ogun West and across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
