…Describe Viral Video as Doctored, Misleading, and Politically Motivated
Ado-Odo/Ota, Ogun State
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Leaders in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government have firmly dissociated themselves from a viral video and accompanying reports alleging that they endorsed Hon. Tunji Akinosi for re-election to the House of Representatives in 2027.
In a strongly worded statement issued following a roundtable discourse held on Easter Sunday, the youth leaders described the purported endorsement as false, misleading, and a product of deliberate manipulation.
According to the leaders, their presence at Hon. Tunji Akinosi’s consultation meeting was strictly in line with their responsibilities as party stakeholders and did not, in any way, constitute an endorsement of his re-election bid.
“We attended the meeting in good faith and as loyal party members. At no point did we collectively or individually endorse Hon. Tunji Akinosi for a second term,” the statement read.
The youth leaders further revealed that a media team at the event requested their names and official designations under the pretext of documenting attendance. They expressed shock that this information was later allegedly used to produce a doctored video, merging their identities with a pre-recorded voice-over suggesting endorsement.
“The video in circulation is clearly manipulated. A closer observation reveals inconsistencies between the introduction of our names and the supposed endorsement chants. This is a calculated attempt to mislead the public,” said Hon. Oloyede, Ward 1 Youth Leader.
“Such actions undermine democratic values and reflect a troubling level of political desperation,” added Hon. Seriki, Ward 2 Youth Leader.
The statement also highlighted that a majority of the ward youth leadership in Ota State Constituency have openly declared their support for High Chief Olanrewaju Bashorun (Larrybash) as their preferred candidate for the House of Representatives seat in 2027.
Specifically, six out of eight youth leaders present at the discourse reaffirmed their position, while noting that no fewer than 13 out of 16 ward youth leaders and party executives share the same stance.
The APC Youth Leaders urged members of the public, party faithful, and the media to verify information from credible sources before sharing or acting on politically sensitive content.
“We are in a critical political period where misinformation can easily be weaponized. We encourage everyone to seek verification and rely on credible sources,” the statement concluded.
The youth leaders reiterated their commitment to transparency, party unity, and the democratic process, while calling for issue-based engagement as the 2027 elections approach.
