FACO honours Ogun SUBEB Chairman for integrity, accountability and outstanding public service
The Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Olalekan Ifede, has been honoured with the Anti-Corruption Ambassador Award by the Fight Against Corruption Organisation (FACO) in recognition of his integrity, diligence and commitment to transparency and accountability in public service.
The award was presented on Wednesday at the SUBEB Board’s Conference Room in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, as FACO acknowledged Ifede’s dedication to ethical leadership and his performance as head of the state’s basic education agency.
According to the organisation, Ifede was selected for the honour in recognition of his record of honesty, adherence to financial regulations and commitment to public service rules, both in his previous positions and in his current role at Ogun SUBEB.
REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO FIGHTING CORRUPTION
In his response, Ifede commended FACO for its efforts to combat corruption and promote integrity across Nigeria, reaffirming his commitment to upholding financial discipline, transparency and accountability in the administration of the Board.
He stressed that the fight against corruption requires personal discipline, collective responsibility and a genuine commitment to doing what is right. He also urged Nigerians to be content with what they legitimately possess and to support initiatives aimed at eliminating corrupt practices.
The SUBEB Chairman attributed the Board’s achievements to teamwork and the collective efforts of its workforce, assuring FACO of the Board’s continued support for its anti-corruption campaign.
He, however, urged the organisation to maintain due diligence and objectivity in selecting recipients of its awards to preserve the credibility and integrity of the recognition.
FACO CALLS FOR COLLECTIVE ACTION
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of FACO, Dr Francis Shopekan, explained that the organisation was established to contribute to the eradication of corruption through advocacy, public enlightenment and collaboration with civil society organisations.
He disclosed that FACO also seeks to sensitise religious leaders to the need to preach against corruption and encourage ethical conduct, while supporting broader efforts to improve Nigeria’s standing in global assessments of corruption.
Shopekan emphasised that the fight against corruption should not be left to government institutions alone, noting that individuals, community leaders, religious organisations and civil society groups all have important roles to play.
He formally announced Ifede as an Anti-Corruption Ambassador and called on Nigerians to support FACO’s campaign for a more transparent, accountable and prosperous nation.
SUBEB MANAGEMENT COMMENDS FACO
In her welcome address, the Board Secretary, Mrs Olubunmi Oso, commended FACO for its commitment to promoting integrity and fighting corruption, expressing appreciation for the organisation’s recognition of the SUBEB Chairman’s contributions to public service.
Similarly, the Director of Administration and Supplies, Mr Femi Fatade, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating FACO for the visit and for considering Ifede worthy of the honour.
He encouraged the organisation to sustain its advocacy and public enlightenment initiatives, stressing the importance of promoting integrity, accountability and responsible leadership in both public and private institutions.
The recognition adds to the ongoing conversation about ethical leadership and institutional accountability, highlighting the importance of public office holders who demonstrate a commitment to transparency and responsible governance.
