The Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (OGITECH), in partnership with the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, hosted a sensitisation programme for public tertiary institutions in Ogun State. The event took place at the Prince Dapo Abiodun Twin Lecture Theatre, Igbesa.
Speaking at the programme, the Rector of OGITECH, Dr Abiodun Oluseye, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for initiating policies aimed at reducing the financial burden on Nigerian students. He noted that the education loan scheme would not only support students’ academic pursuits but also provide them with monthly stipends to enhance their welfare while in school.
Dr Oluseye further expressed appreciation to the Chairman of the OGITECH Governing Council, Chief Ayotunde Ola Odulaja, as well as his associate, Otunba Femi Adewunmi, for their commitment to ensuring that students in Ogun State fully benefit from the NELFUND initiative.
In his address, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyer, explained that the education loan is interest-free and that repayment would only commence after beneficiaries have completed their studies and secured employment. He added that while efforts are being intensified to enable students to access the fund immediately upon admission, prospective students who are yet to matriculate can apply using their JAMB registration numbers.
Several dignitaries in attendance, including traditional rulers, commended President Tinubu for the initiative, describing it as a transformative intervention capable of improving access to quality education for Nigerian youths. The programme attracted representatives from various public tertiary institutions across Ogun State.
The programme was formally brought to a close with a vote of thanks delivered by the Acting Registrar of OGITECH, Mrs Sakirat Olajumoke Johnson, on behalf of the management and entire OGITECH community.
