Community-focused initiative combines food palliatives with medical outreach as grassroots engagement deepens.
APC grassroots movement combines welfare support and healthcare assistance for members and residents
In a demonstration of grassroots engagement and community-based support, the Olukotun Yayi Movement in Atan Ward of Ogun State organised a food palliative distribution and medical outreach aimed at providing immediate welfare assistance and basic healthcare support to members of the community.
The initiative, organised under the leadership of Honourable Nurudeen Olukotun, brought together members and supporters for a programme that combined the distribution of food items with medical attention, reflecting an approach that placed both household welfare and access to basic healthcare at the centre of the engagement.
The programme was presented as part of the movement’s effort to remain connected with the people at the grassroots, particularly at a period when economic pressures have continued to make food and healthcare important concerns for many families.
Speaking on the initiative, Olukotun described the programme as a robust and impactful intervention undertaken in the interest of the people and in support of the collective political structure.
He explained that the exercise was not limited to political mobilisation, but was also intended to respond to immediate needs within the community through practical assistance.
According to him, initiatives of this nature provide an opportunity for political organisations and community leaders to interact directly with the people, understand their concerns and respond to areas where assistance can make a meaningful difference.
The food distribution component provided beneficiaries with palliative items intended to offer temporary relief to participating households, while the medical outreach created an avenue for members of the community to receive basic medical attention.
The combination of the two activities gave the programme a broader welfare dimension, addressing both immediate food needs and health concerns.
The initiative also comes against the backdrop of increasing grassroots political engagement in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Ogun State APC recently inaugurated its campaign council and directed its structures to deepen engagement across local governments, wards and polling units.
Similarly, the Yayi Progressives Movement has publicly highlighted grassroots participation, voter engagement, community outreach and empowerment as components of its activities across Ogun State.
Against this background, the Atan Ward programme provides another example of how local political structures and support groups are using community-level activities to maintain contact with members and residents.
For Olukotun, the significance of the exercise lies in the direct connection established with beneficiaries.
Rather than limiting engagement to meetings and political gatherings, the initiative brought the movement closer to members through tangible welfare and health-related activities.
The organiser also expressed appreciation to those who contributed to the success of the programme, describing their participation and support as important to the initiative’s impact.
The event further underscored the role that ward-level organisations can play in identifying immediate community needs and creating platforms through which assistance can reach people directly.
As political activities continue to gather momentum in Ogun State, initiatives such as the Olukotun Yayi Movement’s food palliative distribution and medical outreach demonstrate the growing emphasis on grassroots contact, welfare interventions and community engagement.
For the beneficiaries of the Atan Ward programme, however, the immediate significance was more direct: food support reached households, while medical attention was brought closer to members of the community.
The programme therefore served as a convergence of welfare, healthcare and grassroots engagement, with Honourable Nurudeen Olukotun and members of the Olukotun Yayi Movement using the occasion to reinforce their connection with the people of Atan Ward.
