Jakande’s School Feeding Programme Resumes as Pupils Welcome Return with Excitement
The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Dr. Seyi Jakande, has renewed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of pupils in public primary schools with the resumption of the JAKO Jollof free school feeding programme.
The initiative resumed on Friday, September 25, 2026, across 27 public primary schools in Zones 4, 5 and 6 of the LCDA, strategically coinciding with the commencement of the new academic term.
JAKO Jollof, one of the administration’s child-focused interventions, is designed to provide nutritious meals to pupils during school hours, with the broader objective of supporting their wellbeing and creating conditions that are more conducive to learning.
The return of the programme was met with visible excitement across the schools visited. Pupils eagerly welcomed the meals, with some expressing their joy through chants of “JAKO Jollof, thank God, it’s Friday!”—a cheerful indication of how much the initiative has become part of their school experience.
Speaking on the resumption of the programme, Chairman Jakande reiterated that the welfare of children remains a major priority of his administration. He stressed the importance of ensuring that pupils are adequately supported while pursuing their education, maintaining that no child should be distracted from learning by hunger.
According to the Chairman, the school feeding programme is not merely about providing meals, but also forms part of a broader commitment to strengthening basic education and improving the overall school experience for children within the LCDA.
To ensure effective implementation, members of the JAKO Jollof supervisory team, alongside officials of the Chairman’s Media Team, monitored the distribution across the three zones. The monitoring exercise focused on ensuring orderly distribution and adherence to the programme’s operational standards.
The resumption also provided an opportunity for school communities to reconnect with an initiative that has placed pupils’ welfare at the centre of local government intervention.
For parents and guardians, the programme is expected to provide some relief by helping to cushion the financial pressure associated with feeding children during school hours, while for pupils, it represents additional support as they settle into the new academic term.
The Jakande administration has reaffirmed its intention to sustain JAKO Jollof as part of its wider agenda of promoting child welfare, supporting public education and creating a more supportive learning environment across Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA.
As the pupils returned to their classrooms after receiving their meals, the cheerful atmosphere across the schools underscored a simple message: for many children, a well-fed pupil is better positioned to concentrate, participate and learn.
