TPL (PRINCE) ROTIMI MATTHEW BABAJIDE: THE TOWN PLANNER WITH A VISION TO REIMAGINE OGUN STATE

There are moments in the life of a people when leadership becomes more than the occupation of an office. It becomes a question of vision, courage, competence and the willingness to offer oneself for the greater good. It is against this backdrop that the emergence of TPL (Prince) Rotimi Matthew Babajide on the Ogun political landscape has attracted growing attention.

A professional town planner and political figure, Babajide has positioned himself as a man who believes that the future of Ogun State must be deliberately planned, properly managed and built around the needs of its people. His professional background in town planning gives particular meaning to his emphasis on infrastructure, economic development and orderly growth.
His political journey took a significant turn in 2026 when he declared his intention to contest the 2027 Ogun State governorship election on the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). At the declaration, he presented what was described in reports as a people-centred manifesto, covering economic growth, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, security and transparent governance.

What distinguishes Babajide’s public presentation is the prominence he gives to planning and measurable development.
One of his headline proposals is the creation of 150,000 jobs within four years, supported by industrial growth clusters in major economic centres including Abeokuta, Sagamu and Ota, alongside assistance for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

For a state whose economy is closely connected to manufacturing, commerce, agriculture and its strategic proximity to Lagos, such an approach speaks to the fundamental question of how Ogun can transform its enormous economic potential into opportunities that ordinary citizens can feel in their daily lives.
Babajide has also spoken about road rehabilitation, electricity, improvements to public schools, maternal and child healthcare, community security and technology-driven approaches to governance.

Town planning is fundamentally about understanding space, anticipating growth and creating systems that allow communities to develop sustainably. That professional orientation provides an interesting lens through which to understand Babajide’s political message.
A governor, after all, is not merely a political administrator. The governor is also expected to be a planner of the state’s future—someone who must think beyond today’s headlines and consider what Ogun should look like years and decades ahead.
This is where Babajide’s professional identity becomes central to his political narrative: planning before building, identifying problems before they become crises, and connecting today’s decisions with tomorrow’s possibilities.

Babajide’s campaign has placed considerable emphasis on economic expansion and employment.
His proposed industrial clusters and support for entrepreneurs reflect an argument that government should not only distribute opportunities but should also help create the environment in which businesses can survive, expand and employ people.

For Ogun, a state with major industrial corridors and a large youthful population, the success of such an economic philosophy would ultimately be measured not by speeches but by factories operating, businesses growing, young people gaining skills and families experiencing improved livelihoods.
That is the challenge before every political promise—and Babajide’s proposals will inevitably be judged by how realistically and effectively they can be translated into policy.

In June 2026, Babajide received the APM’s certificate of return as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election. Reports said the presentation took place at the party’s state secretariat in Abeokuta. In accepting the nomination, he expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him and spoke of economic expansion, industrialisation, food security and democratic consolidation.

Later reports stated that the APM selected Akinlade Abosede as his running mate, presenting the ticket as one intended to combine representation from different parts of Ogun State. Babajide was quoted describing himself as a prince from Egbaland while identifying his running mate as an indigene of Yewaland.

The development gave greater definition to the political structure around his 2027 ambition.

The title Prince adds a traditional dimension to Babajide’s public identity, while Town Planner speaks to his professional calling. But ultimately, political leadership demands more than titles or professional credentials.
It demands the ability to listen.
It demands the capacity to unite people.
It demands courage to make difficult decisions.
And above all, it demands the transformation of promises into results.
That is the standard against which Prince Rotimi Matthew Babajide’s political journey will be measured.

The 2027 Ogun governorship race is still ahead, and the electorate will ultimately decide which vision deserves its mandate.
For Babajide, however, the journey has already become an opportunity to place his ideas before the people of Ogun State. His central message is built around development, employment, infrastructure, social services, security and accountable governance.

Whether history eventually records him as the man who transformed his professional philosophy into a new model of governance remains a question for the future.
But one thing is already clear: TPL (Prince) Rotimi Matthew Babajide has chosen to enter the arena with a development narrative built around planning, economic opportunity and a determination to offer himself for public service.

And as Ogun State moves toward another defining political contest, his name will undoubtedly form part of the conversation about who should shape the next chapter of the Gateway State.

Prince Rotimi Matthew Babajide is therefore not simply presenting himself as another political aspirant; he is presenting a proposition—an Ogun State deliberately planned, economically strengthened and governed with a stronger emphasis on opportunity and accountability.
