Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, on Friday, September 25, 2026, visited the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta, where he unveiled his nine-point development agenda and engaged journalists on his plans for Ogun State.
Adeola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, said his decision to commence his statewide engagements with the media was informed by the constitutional importance of journalists and the Fourth Estate in democratic governance.
During the engagement, he pledged that, if elected governor, his administration would comply fully with the Freedom of Information Act and maintain regular and substantive engagements with journalists.
He said the media would be treated as partners in governance, stressing that journalists would be encouraged to scrutinise his policies and hold his administration accountable for its commitments.
“I do not come to you asking you to believe me. I come asking you to hold me to this manifesto, line by line, project by project,” Adeola said.
Earlier, the Ogun NUJ Chairman, Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, highlighted some of the achievements recorded by the council under his leadership. He also appealed to the governorship candidate to support journalists in areas including welfare, housing, safety, capacity building and infrastructure.
Olanrewaju specifically called for the establishment of a journalists’ estate in Ogun State and stronger support for the NUJ permanent site, noting that a befitting secretariat and professional facilities would strengthen the union’s capacity to serve its members.
Responding to the requests, Adeola pledged an initial ₦50 million contribution towards the NUJ permanent site and promised to provide a new bus for the union to facilitate its activities and mobility.
In recognition of his relationship with the media community and his stated commitment to journalists, the Ogun State Council of the NUJ decorated Adeola as its Golden Jubilee Ambassador as part of activities marking the council’s 50th anniversary.
Adeola also unveiled a nine-point development agenda focused on infrastructure, job creation, agriculture, healthcare, education, industrialisation, security, tourism and institutional reforms.
The engagement came as part of Adeola’s preparations for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, in which he is the APC candidate.
